Kerala witnessed an unprecedented natural calamity in June, July and August this year. This is perhaps the only single calamity that covered almost all the districts of Kerala. Though all the districts of Kerala had a share of the havoc caused by disaster Wayanad, Calicut, Kannur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Ernakulam districts had to receive the major chunk of damage in terms of loss of lives, property and livelihood.
More than 300 small and medium Landslides are reported in Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad, Calicut, and Palakkad districts. All the 44 rivers and 39 dams overflowed and the flood water entered into the dwelling areas much beyond our expectations. The entire Kuttanad region lying in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta Districts submerged in the flood water up to 8 to 15 feet.
